Rie Tanaka, the Voice of Lacus, Visited GUNDAM Café TOKYO! A Report of the Special Program Held on September 13th

A special program was held on Sunday, September 13th, at the experience-based entertainment restaurant GUNDAM Café TOKYO BRAND CORE (GUNDAM Café TOKYO).

For this special program, Yuma Aoki took on the role of the MC and Rie Tanaka, the voice actress of Lacus Clyne in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, visited the venue as a guest.
Rie Tanaka recalled the time when she received the role of Lacus Clyne and that her recording session began with the song “Quiet Night,” and that she joined the series without any knowledge of the story. She commented, “I went through a phase of trial and error and wondered whether I should sing in a bold way to represent her persistent personality, or to go for a more soft voice.”

She then reminisced, “Lacus has a cheerful way of talking but shows a more serious side when giving advice, and she is a mysterious character whose moods are hard to read. She also has unwavering confidence but doesn’t force it onto other people. She gives others a supportive push forward and is full of charisma, making her someone who makes us want to follow her.”

The event then moved onto a corner featuring Rie Tanaka’s iconic episodes from SEED and SEED DESTINY. She stated that she enjoyed episodes such as “PHASE-08: The Songstress of The Enemy Forces” and “PHASE-34: Seen and Unseen” from SEED and “PHASE-24: Differing Views” from SEED Destiny and especially had a soft spot for “PHASE-36: In the Name of Justice” from SEED. She explained, “I had a line where my character Lacus asks, ‘What is it you're fighting for now?’ to Athrun, who was struggling to find a way to fight. It was a line where Lacus makes Athrun rethink his reason to fight.” She also revealed, “We had to go through many retakes and it was an intense scene full of many emotions. I was given instructions to read the line without criticizing him and speak in a more persuasive way.”

The event then featured Rie Tanaka explaining her favorite outfits and female characters from the series and enjoying GUNDAM Café Tokyo while introducing exclusive items available at the venue.
The final part of the special program included a corner where visitors were able to ask questions on the spot.

A panel with Rie Tanaka’s signature will be displayed at GUNDAM Café Tokyo and a special dessert plate and fortuneLatte drink will be available until Saturday, September 19th.
