The Moving Gundam Summer Event “GFY Summer Illumination 2023 Feat. Gundam Build Metaverse” Starts on Jul. 22!

GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA, the facility hosting the life-sized Moving Gundam, has surpassed one million visitors at the beginning of the month! The Moving Gundam special summer event “GFY Summer Illumination 2023 Feat. Gundam Build Metaverse” will be held from Saturday, July 22nd, to Sunday, September 3rd, and the opening time will be extended to 9:00 PM.

Moreover, GFY’s summer is packed with fun events! We will provide educational support for kids’ summer homework’s free research explaining the structure and mechanism of the Moving Gundam; we’ll offer beer and food with GFY original designs; we’ll hold the Second Moving Gundam Photo Contest and the Gundam R (Recycle) Operation; and night tickets that can be used for entering the facility after 7:00 PM will go on sale.

GFY has been providing educational support events since November 2021. This program for elementary and middle school students aims to show kids the wonders of craftsmanship and helps them learn and experience the mechanisms that allow the life-sized Moving Gundam to move.
This Summer Homework’s Free Research Project allows kids to participate with a guardian. The lecturer will be Akinori Ishii, the Technical Director of GCC and one of the people who built the Moving Gundam. The participants will learn the fun of craftsmanship from him while observing the Mobile Suit.

The first Moving Gundam Photo Contest was very successful, and the second round starts on Saturday, July 8th!
This time, the themes are “The Moving Gundam at sunset or by night” and “GFY at sunset or by night,” and we will put the photos we receive up on the gallery of the GFY official website. Once the submission period is over, our staff will vote for the three best photos, which will be printed out on panels and displayed inside GFY. The visitors will choose the best photo, which will be used as the top slider image of the GFY website for a month. Don’t hesitate to submit your pictures!

This special show will feature LINKL PLANET’s Days of Birth, the ending theme to the anime Gundam Build Metaverse, which will be streamed starting in October on the YouTube Gundam Channel. The show will be on four times a day: twice between 6 and 7 PM and twice between 8 and 9 PM. The upbeat song matches the light show perfectly, so don’t miss it!

During the event period, you can get a Gundam Build Metaverse coaster if you purchase drinks at the café or kitchen cars, so make sure to check that out, too!

From Saturday, July 22, to Sunday, September 3, we will distribute an ECOPLA, a GUNPLA experience kit made with recycled plastic from the runners we’ve gathered, to everyone who enters GFY. Our aim is to attract people’s interest to recycling through Gundam.

*Gundam R (Recycle) Operation is a part of the Gundam Recycling Project, which aims to create a circular society by recycling the plastic from the GUNPLA runners (the frames around the parts) collected with the cooperation of fans.
*We will distribute one kit per person upon entrance.
*Plastic models are suitable for kids aged 6 or above, so we will give the kit to the guardians if they are 5 or younger.
*We will distribute the kits every day during the Operation period, but we have a limited number of kits per day. There is a chance we may be unable to distribute the kit to everyone. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
*The kit is made from recycled materials, so its colors might differ slightly.
