Shoko Nakagawa and Kimitoshi Yamane Apper on 2024 Gundam News: Silver Phantom & Requiem for Vengeance Official Report from Anime Expo 2024

At the Anime Expo 2024 held from Thursday, July 4 through Sunday, July 7 in Los Angeles, US, a Gundam feature panel the Gundam feature panel 2024 Gundam News: Requiem for Vengeance and Silver Phantom, took place on Friday, July 5 local time. The panel focused on the new Netflix-exclusive original animation Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance set to be released this fall, and the VR movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom also set to launch this fall on Meta Quest.
At the Gundam feature panel, scriptwriter Gavin Hignight and mechanical designer Kimitoshi Yamane from Requiem for Vengeance appeared on stage as guests along with Cristina Vee, who voices the Haro in the English version of Silver Phantom, and Shoko Nakagawa, who performs the theme song. The latest information about both titles was unveiled.

From Requiem for Vengeance, the latest trailer and the overview of the story were revealed, along with images of the Zaku II (F Type) piloted by the main character Iria Solari, and the Earth Federation Army’s Mobile Suit, Gundam EX, drawn by Yamane. He also discussed the intricate thought process behind the mecha designs in the show. Hignight shared how he felt a great deal of pressure when he was appointed as the scriptwriter, and spoke about the challenges of working during the COVID pandemic, especially with a global team, which made scheduling meetings difficult. Both of them delivered heartfelt messages to the fans that await the show’s release.

I believe this work will be a significant turning point for the Gundam series, shaping the future of its videos for decades to come. I can’t wait for the show’s release, and I hope you all are excited as well. (Yamane)
I think we’ve done a great job. The initial inspiration for this project came from the cockpit of the Zaku. The cockpit is like the crew compartment of a tank. It’s a place that protects you, but it also could become your coffin. I thought about what kind of character would fit in such a situation. Solari has now become one of my favorite characters. From Silver Phantom a new key art, a new trailer, and the overview of the story were revealed along with some of the main characters and Mobile Suits!
Additionally, the Meta Quest store page opened, and pre-orders started during the panel, making it a presentation full of new information.
Vee served as the MC for this panel and introduced herself while showcasing Haro's voice. When asked about her feelings when she was chosen to be part of this project, she said, “I was so excited when I was given the role of Haro. Haro is so cute and is one of my favorites. I’ve been watching Gundam since I was a child, and Heero Yuy was my first crush. It’s an honor to be part of the Gundam universe!”
When Nakagawa was asked about how she felt when selected to sing the theme song for Silver Phantom, she excitedly replied, “I was like ‘What?! I get to sing the theme song of my beloved Gundam?!’ Singing an anime song has been my biggest dream, and getting to sing for Gundam made my life worth it! I almost passed out from my dream coming true!” After seeing the new trailer and key art, she added, “Although it’s a brand new Gundam, I somehow felt nostalgic. The new silver Mobile Suit is incredibly cool! The design really suits the Universal Century! Having my song played in such an amazing world is an overwhelming honor!” The crowd replied with a round of applause.
Sharing her impressions after experiencing the main story in advance, Nakagawa said, “It was amazing. Everyone’s dream, including mine, came true! You get to be a Gundam pilot! This was the closest I felt to being in the future. We finally get to experience space! We get to fight in a Mobile Suit and awaken as a Newtype. The experience of being a pilot is so natural as if Gundam is a part of our lives. I can’t wait for everyone to experience it!
Regarding the theme song ACROSS THE WORLD, which has recently been released, she commented, “I talked with director Suzuki about making this song feel nostalgic yet fresh. The lyrics closely connect with the story and I realized what it means to be a theme song. I hope you look forward to where ACROSS THE WORLD plays in the show!”
Finally, she shared her hopes for the show and the Gundam feature panel concluded with great success.

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is set to be released worldwide in the fall of 2024 exclusively on Netflix, while Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom will also be released in the fall of 2024 on Meta Quest.
