A Special Birthday Project for Mr. Furuya Took Place! A GUNDAM Café TOKYO Opening Ceremony Report
Amuro and Char visit GUNDAM Café TOKYO BRAND CORE on their own time!
The experience-based entertainment restaurant facility GUNDAM Café TOKYO BRAND CORE (GUNDAM Café TOKYO) opened today on Friday, July 31st and an opening ceremony was held.
The opening ceremony was hosted by entertainer Chiaki Kyan and Toru Furuya, the voice actor of Amuro Ray from Mobile Suit Gundam, appeared as a guest.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Mr. Furuya appeared with a face shield resembling Amuro and remarked, “This makes me want to say... “Amuro, Gundam, Ikimasu! (Amuro, taking off on the Gundam)”.
Ms. Kyan appeared with a face shield with a design resembling Char. The face shields are available at the Gundam Café to offer an extra layer of protection during your meals.
Mr. Furuya smiled at how well the masks looked and commented saying, "I want both of them."
The Amuro version masks are available in the Restaurant Area and the Char version masks are available in Zeon's Diner TOKYO. They are to be returned when you leave the store but they can also be purchased for 300 JPY (tax included) if you wish to take them home.
An introduction to the Restaurant Area, a place that resembles the mess hall on a space battleship, then took place. The walls in the area have large 18-meter-long multi-monitors that resemble the windows on battleships and a section of the movies that are to be shown were shown during the ceremony. The movie featured the White Base, the Gundam, the Unicorn Gundam, as well as places from the series such as Side 7 and Jaburo. Mr. Furuya reacted to the scenes where the Zeon Forces launched a heavy attack by exclaiming, “Hurry up, Gundam!”
The G DIMENSIONS EX DINNER SHOW special program was also held in the Restaurant Area. “ZEON Rally Gathering” presented by Garma & Char is one of the show programs that can be enjoyed where Garma cooks in a kitchen. It also features other scenes that cannot be seen in the series. Meals thought up by Char and Garma for their troops will be served during the show program and Mr. Furuya commented, “Fans of the Gundam series would absolutely love it. But I prefer Garma’s meat entree over Char’s,” showing his contempt toward Char.
It was revealed that a dinner show featuring Mobile Suit Gundam 00 is being planned, which may lead to even future possibilities.
The presentation then went on to an introduction of Zeon's Diner TOKYO, an experience-based diner where visitors can enter the world of the Principality of Zeon.
The diner is a place that only the officers of the Principality of Zeon can set foot in and offers interactive projection sheets where visitors can enjoy battle simulations with the meals they order, and AR mission sheets that have AR functions. A memorial corner is set up at the bar counter where the iconic scene from the series is recreated, and Mr. Furuya commented, "I would love to come here with Shuichi Ikeda."
The next introduction featured the Goods Shop that offers approx. 360 original goods, including items exclusive to the Gundam Café.
Mr. Furuya was surprised with the number of items and seemed especially interested in the Japan Food Collection, a collaborative series featuring local foods from all over Japan, and smiled and commented, "I want to know more about this spice mix, and I hope that they’ll sell Gundam-themed Shumai steamed dumplings since I’m from Kanagawa prefecture.”
The fortune Latte Cafe offers takeout drinks such as new types of printed drinks.
Fortune Latte drinks can be enjoyed by selecting a base drink and print theme and randomly selected characters and Mobile Suits will be printed onto your drink while you play mini games and answer questions on a tablet device. Drinks with Clear Bottles featuring designs unique to GUNDAM Café TOKYO will also be available.
After the introduction to each of the exciting areas of GUNDAM Café TOKYO, Mr. Furuya stated that he couldn’t wait to visit it again with Shuichi Ikeda in their own time and shouted, "Amuro and Char will take off to Gundam GUNDAM Café on their personal time!”

Furthermore, the day of the ceremony was not only the grand opening of the facility but also Mr. Furuya's birthday, and a special birthday event was held. A cake and a fortune latte drink printed with a pattern of both Amuro and Mr. Furuya were presented, and Mr. Furuya joked around stating, "I’ve finally turned 17, if you subtract 50 years from my actual age." It was announced that this version of fortune Latte would only be available on the day of the ceremony and Mr. Furuya told the visitors not to miss the opportunity.
"This cafe is full of exciting features, the meals look delicious, and their selection of alcohol excites me. I believe even visitors who aren’t Gundam fans will also be able to enjoy it. But it would be even better if we had more Earth Federation-themed areas.”
