60th All Japan Model & Hobby Show Event Report w/ Silhouette Exhibitions for the Gundam Aerial Statue and SD Gundam World!

The 60th All Japan Model & Hobby Show, the largest hobby event in Japan, will be held in South Halls 1 and 2 at Tokyo Big Sight on Saturday, October 1st, and Sunday, October 2nd.

Those in the industry were invited today, September 30th, ahead of regular admission. We’ll give you an overview of the event and all of the new items that were announced.

At the stage set within the BANDAI SPIRITS booth at the venue, not only were various new products introduced by the person in charge of plastic model development, but there was also a live talk between Junpei Mizusaki, the creative producer and representative of Kamikaze Douga, and the idol group LINKL PLANET, as well as a special live performance by LINKL PLANET.

In the opening segment, video footage showed a recap of LINKL PLANET’S plastic model PR, from events to TV appearances, since their debut in March of this year. In particular, it seems the drama Mass Production Type Rico was a big hit with fans. Then Junpei Mizusaki, who directed the music video for the second single "Plastic+", appeared. Mr. Mizusaki said that he’s always liked plastic models and that may be how he got the position as director. Also, in the music video, the song title appears in the form of a plastic model runner, but Director Mizusaki excitedly revealed, "This runner was supervised by BANDAI SPIRITS!" He spoke of an episode that showed what he took the most care in as a director.

Next, a developer took the stage with the recently announced MG 1/100 Zeta Gundam Ver.Ka. He explained that it was made to celebrate Ver.Ka’s 20th anniversary and stated that, while it is the latest item, it aims to be a somewhat nostalgic Zeta Gundam like the one seen in the anime back then.
This Zeta Gundam is designed to be "easy to play with." It has a stress-free transformation mechanism that allows it to move freely in its Mobile Suit mode, but it locks tightly in its Wave Rider mode. It was also created to be held and displayed like a scale model of an aircraft. The mechanism developed for this product is currently patent pending.
When Mr. Mizusaki saw the MG Zeta Gundam Ver.Ka, he was impressed by the GUNPLA’s size and the thickness of its chest in the Mobile Suit form. He had been buying Zeta Gundam GUNPLA for a long time, but he was deeply moved by the fact that the kit he wanted to display in MS form had finally appeared, and he praised it with rave reviews.

Additionally, new plastic models for Amaim Warrior at the Borderline were introduced. At the very end, LINKL PLANET did a live performance of “Plastic+.”

At the BANDAI SPIRITS booth, a wide variety of Gundam items were displayed, including many of the new GUNPLA announced at the online event HOBBY NEXT PHASE 2022 AUTUMN that was held on the Bandai Hobby website, items from the ROBOT SPIRITS series, Gashapon, Shokugan, and even Gunpla-kun acrylic keychains.
A large Gundam Aerial statue stood at the entrance to greet visitors, who took pictures one after another.

At the SD Gundam World series GUNPLA corner, a mysterious item was displayed in a frosted tube so only its silhouette could be seen. Look forward to the day when its true identity will be revealed.

Multiple displays that used Gundam markers were exhibited at the GSI Creos booth. Five new colors perfect for GUNPLA from the Mobile Suit Gundam THE WITCH FROM MERCURY series were displayed along with examples that were painted with gold and silver Gundam markers.

Furthermore, the “TRUST” diorama that was published in the November 2022 edition of Monthly Hobby Japan was displayed at the Hobby Japan booth, and many GUNPLA-related books were available for purchase at the Art Box booth.
