Tokyo Game Show 2017, Japan’s largest game show, will be held over a course of four days starting from September 21st (Thurs) at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Public dates are on September 23rd (Sat) and the 24th (Sun).
The event, with attention from all over the world, will not only offer games that are increasingly being realistically presented thanks to evolution in technology, but will also offer all-new experiences with the theme “Come, let’s have an experience beyond reality.”
Last year’s newly established VR corner has been renamed the “VR/AR Corner” and will expand its exhibit to include VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality), and MR (mixed reality). The e-Sports corner stage will be drastically renovated to hold a tournament for popular family and smartphone game titles in an effort to completely popularize e-Sports in Japan. The corner is also scheduled to be streamed online to liven up the event.
Additionally, online streaming will be increased both inside and outside Japan with an advance program scheduled to begin in July. The program will be the first to announce exhibiting companies at the show and will also stream preliminary e-Sports tournaments. A late-night program will also be streamed during the game show.
The event will also work with a new partner for online streaming targeted towards China and is scheduled to open an official video channel.
The event’s main visual released on the 24th expresses this year’s theme and was drawn by Ippei Gyoubu, an illustrator who worked as a mecha designer for series such as Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans and Gundam Reconguista in G.
[Creator: A Comment from Mr. Ippei Gyoubu]
“The world of games is not realistic. But is it really? To us, it wasn’t about whether it was real or not; it was merely all about the experience. We’ve even already “experienced” the space travel that humanity has long dreamed of. That’s right, it all has to do with imagination. Your imagination is what will create experiences that surpass reality – I greatly look forward to the Tokyo Game Show’s 21st year after taking the first step together with the girl from the main visual.”
