Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN: Clash at Battle of Loum finally began its four weeks-only theater screening at 35 theaters nationwide on September 2nd (Sat).
The opening day stage greetings took place at Marunouchi Piccadilly in Tokyo where Mr. Shuuichi Ikeda, voice of Char Aznable, Mr. Banjo Ginga, voice of Gihren Zabi, Mr. Toru Furuya, voice of Amuro Ray, Mr. Toshio Furukawa, voice of Kai Shiden, and General Director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko took the stage.
This stage greeting, a fitting group of premium members gathered on opening day, was a grand event that was streamed for live viewing at all screening theaters nationwide.
The members that were gathered and stood on stage have come together for the first time in the 38 year history of the Gundam series not including the first Mobile Suit Gundam series.
They shared their happiness at being able to welcome the public opening of episode 5 on this day, saying, “It’s an indescribable feeling being able to stand here together,” and “I’ve never been as happy as this.”
When asked about the THE ORIGIN series, Mr. Ikeda said, “It’s a story that wasn’t in the first Gundam, so it has a fresh feeling (to it).”
Mr. Ginga said, “I’ve reversed in age, so acting was difficult.” To that, Mr. Furuya replied, “8 years old… was what I thought, but since we were chosen by Director Yasuhiko, we just had to do it,” he then continued, revealing that he had troubled with the same thing, “I thought ‘will I sound like a high schooler?’ but since it was a character that I love, I tried my very best.”
On the other hand, General Director Yasuhiko was always drawing in the studio during the first Gundam, so he had not been acquainted with Mr. Ginga. He met him for the first time through THE ORIGIN. He said, “I was immediately surprised. His appearance is scary, but he is a gentle person,” and his impressions caused much excitement in the venue.
When asked about their enthusiasm towards the next episode, episode 6 “Birth of the Red Comet,” General Director Yasuhiko enthusiastically replied, “Originally, THE ORIGIN was only scheduled to have 4episodes, but we were able to make episodes 5 and 6 on the Loum arc due to everyone’s support. The One Year War arc exists in THE ORIGIN from this point. If we have everyone’s support, we may be able to continue making more, so please continue to support the series.”
Lastly, each guest respectively commented on what Gundam was to them. The opening day stage greetings then came to an end.
Toshio Furukawa (Kai Shiden)
Gundam is a monumental work of Japanese anime. I would like to continue saying in the future that my representative work is Gundam and Kai Shiden.
Toru Furuya (Amuro Ray)
Though Char is the main lead in THE ORIGIN, Amuro will become the main lead continuing into the One Year War arc. Please let me be the main lead!
Banjo Ginga (Gihren Zabi)
I had begun doing voice work back then during that period, so Gihren was my starting point in preparing for my roles. It is fortunate that I was able to encounter such a series.
Shuichi Ikeda (Char Aznable)
Please let me be the main lead for one more episode. Please continue supporting THE ORIGIN.
General Director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko
We were briefly separated, but we have returned to Gundam again in the form of THE ORIGIN. This has already become something we cannot walk away from, so I will continue with it as a treasure.
As valuable premium members had gathered together for this day, the entire venue chorused “Sieg Zeon!”
Gihren’s yell, thanks to Mr. Ginga, echoed as he loudly chorused, “Sieg Zeon!”
Furthermore, illustrations of the characters that the cast voiced were also prepared for a photo session with fans in the venue, making it an opening day stage greeting with wonderful content.

Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN: Clash at Battle of Loum is currently screening for a limited time of four weeks at 35 theaters nationwide until September 29th (Fri).
All kinds of merchandise such as the first-press edition of “Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN V Blu-ray Disc Collector’s Edition,” the theatrical CD of the theme song “I CAN’T DO ANYTHING -Oh, Universe-,” and theater-limited Gunpla will be sold at the screening theaters. Attendee presents that will change every week are also being distributed.
