BANDAI SPIRITS Collector’s Division will release the METAL ROBOT Spirits <SIDE MS> Gundam Barbatos Lupus on Saturday, August 7th.
METAL ROBOT Spirits is a brand that spun off the Chougoukin series made with die-cast materials. This is a high-target toy that not only has movability and gimmicks, but is both thick and heavy with texture. This series is known for its line-up of machines from various Gundam series not limited to the Universal Century.
Last year in 2020, the METAL ROBOT Spirits <SIDE MS> Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex was released. Its overwhelmingly high quality received great reviews not just from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans but action figure fans in general.

The Gundam Barbatos Lupus design was overseen by mechanical designer Naohiro Washio and the proportions were designed to be as they were in the anime series. Along with the edgy modeling, the use of electroplating, metallics, matte, and glossy colors gives the armor a texture that makes it feel far realer than just a figure.
Also, the detailed markings makes the figure look even more real and it can be said that the figure’s presence is precisely that of an action figure. The joints and the frame parts use a lot of die-cast parts to create texture and weight. If the backpack is removed, many die-cast parts are exposed so you can enjoy their texture.
You can’t miss out on the many options that the METAL ROBOT Spirits Series boasts of, giving it the highest class of play value of any model series. The various weapons included are the Valkyrie Buster Sword, 200mm arm guns, arm rocket launchers, a sword mace, and two twin maces. It also comes with clear parts to recreate the iconic glowing effect from the series. Also, due to the complete set of display bases, you can display this model in various poses recreated from the series.
All of the included weapons can be equipped at once, so you can display it in a heavily armed state unique to this action figure! Its voluminous silhouette is guaranteed to be overwhelmingly impressive.
The Gundam Barbatos is the Mobile Suit ridden by Mikazuki Augus, the main character of the very popular Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. Let’s look back at what kind of machine it is.

The Journey of the Gundam Barbatos to Lupus
The Gundam Barbatos is a Gundam Frame machine that was used in the Calamity War 300 years ago. For a long time, the private security company Chryse Guard Security (hereafter referred to as CGS) used it as a source of energy for their facility, but the attack by Gjallarhorn caused Orga Itsuka, the leader of the irregularly employed child soldier group, and Mikazuki Augus, also a member of the child soldier group, to activate the Barbatos again as an attempt to recover from the seemingly hopeless situation. Afterwards, Orga created the Tekkadan, a group that eradicated the adults in CGS that had abused the children. Mikazuki supported the fighting Tekkadan from the front lines, piloting the Gundam Barbatos.
The Gundam Barbatos is highly versatile, so in the series, it’s shown exchanging all kinds of equipment. It also uses enemy parts to strengthen itself and is improved whenever necessary. In the first season, it changes from its First Form when it first shows up all the way to its Sixth Form. In the second season, it’s overhauled and fine-tuned in an arms and arsenal on Jupiter, becoming Gundam Barbatos Lupus.
The Sixth Form has strengthened armor meant for ground combat. Since long battles were important, it’s inferior to other forms when comparing mobility, but the Gundam Barbatos Lupus has completely new armor. Including the weapons, it’s made to match Mikazuki’s fighting style.
Also, using Mikazuki’s battle data as the basis, the Alaya-Vijnana System was used to adjust the Mobile Suit’s movements to be closer to the pilot’s senses as a way to improve the machine’s reaction velocity and mobility.
It can be said that the Gundam Barbatos Lupus’ most impressive battle is most likely the Battle for Chryse against the Hashmal.

Unraveling the Charms of the METAL ROBOT Spirits <SIDE MS> Gundam Barbatos Lupus Using Scenes from the Series
The Hashmal was one of the Mobile Armors that took the lives of a quarter of the world’s population during the Calamity War. It’s a bird-shaped unmanned Mobile Armor that was developed to slaughter humans.
Episode 38, “Hunter of Angels,” features a fierce one-on-one battle between the Gundam Barbatos Lupus and the Hashmal. It’s an episode of legend among the fans.

This pose was made to look like the Gundam, with a Sword Mace in one hand and red glow shining from its eyes, is attacking a Hashmal. The Sword Mace can also be held in its other hand. The glowing eye effect is movable on three axles, so you can change the form to match the movement of the Gundam.
In the series, after the Hashmel flings the Sword Mace away, they become engaged in hand-to-hand combat. The METAL ROBOT Spirits series has made it possible to pose the Gundam in a way that it looks like you froze a single movement from their quick movements that made Julieta Juris say, “I can’t see them move”!
By changing the hand parts, you can make the differences between the right and left hands just like that of the series.

You can recreate the heat radiation state seen during combat by lowering the shoulder armor parts. There are very detailed gimmicks incorporated throughout this action figure, including a sliding door for the cockpit.
Perfect. With this, I can kill you.
Perfect. With this, I can kill you.
“With this… I can kill you…” The Valkyrie Buster Sword that Mikazuki wielded as he made that declaration has been recreated with an impressive volume. In the series, this Buster Sword was taken from Isurugi Camice’s Helmwige Reincar. He brought down the big sword on the Hashmel’s head, crushing it and ending the battle.
It comes with various other weapons as well, including the 200mm arm gun used in episode 28, “Battle Before Dawn,” in a space battle against the Dawn Horizon Corps pirates. You can also equip the rocket guns used against the Hashmel on the arm, too.
Also, both hands can hold the Twin Mace that was shown to have unparalleled strength in the fight against the Dawn Horizon Corps. By combining it with the display stand, you can pose the Gundam so that it looks like it’s floating in the middle of a space battle.
The METAL ROBOT Spirits <SIDE MS> Gundam Barbatos Lupus brings forth various scenes from the series by combining different weapons. However, its true value is in the action figure itself. Details like the various gimmicks and the texture of the armor should allow you to feel the impressive presence of the Gundam in a way that only a METAL ROBOT SPIRITS action figure can. We want you to bring forth the Gundam’s true power in a way that will make you say, “is this all you have?”
