Three New Mobile Suits Designed by Kunio Okawara! Seven Types of Tomica x Mobile Suit Gundam Go On Sale in Mid-March 2023!

BANDAI SPIRITS and Takara Tomy’s first collaboration project Dream Together –Connected Feelings, Building a Dream Together– and the Mobile Suit Gundam collaboration product Tomica x Mobile Suit Gundam will go on sale in mid-March 2023 at toy stores and Tomica-exclusive stores “Tomica Shop” across Japan.
In addition to the four models already announced, there will be three new types of Tomica x Mobile Suit Gundam products specially created by Mr. Kunio Okawara, the mecha designer from Mobile Suit Gundam. The lineup will have a total of seven models.
Additionally, preorders will start on Friday, October 7th, at toy stores, toy aisles of department stores and home appliances stores, Tomica Shop branches, internet stores, Takara Tomy Mall, and other locations. Do not forget to check them out.
The BANDAI SPIRITS x Takara Tomy collaboration items will also be displayed at TAMASHII NATIONS 2022, the figure exhibit event by TAMASHII NATIONS that will be held from Friday, November 18th to Sunday, November 20th.

My son also loved playing with Tomica when he was little. At some point, he got himself an acrylic display case and lined them up in the kids’ room. I’ve always loved cars, so when I was invited to collaborate with Tomica, a brand that’s loved all over the world by all ages and genders, I was surprised that I would be able to be a part of that collection, and I was thrilled, while still feeling under pressure.
I was asked to design three models for this collaboration between Gundam and Tomica: a Gundam, a Char’s Zaku, and a Mass-Produced Zaku. My first idea was to use the MSs’ heads as a base for the car body style, then add the most distinctive parts of each MS in an organic way. I’m not one to overthink things, so I tried to shape up the first idea I came up with. I then edited the plans when I was given advice about the bits that could not be reproduced due to the manufacturing process. It was a job you can’t really experience every day, so I very much enjoyed it.

Liger Zero, the most representative Zoid from the second generation of ZOIDS that was developed in the late 1990s, is now an item produced with Chogokin’s unique approach. We studied animals’ skeletal frames in order to recreate Zoids’ original concept of “metallic life forms.” We were able to reproduce the mobility of a beast by putting together the pre-assembled figures technologies that BANDAI SPIRITS has fostered so far, including a Japanese patent pending leg structure.

About the Collaboration Project Dream Together –Connected Feelings, Building a Dream Together–
BANDAI SPIRITS and Takara Tomy’s first collaboration project Dream Together –Connected Feelings, Building a Dream Together– started up in June 2022. It aims to put collaboration items between each company’s product brands and popular content on the market, such as Chogokin × ZOIDS and Tomica x Mobile Suit Gundam. It will also operate events and create original promotion videos.
The two companies deepened their communication for years in order to have an interesting collaboration one day and cooperate to deliver dreams and surprises to the world. The large-scale changes that the world went through in the past few years strengthened their resolve, and the collaboration finally became a reality.
This project will elicit a stronger chemical reaction in the entertainment world by multiplying the two companies’ brands and content by each other and deliver exciting dreams from the toy business.
The slogan “Dream Together” was invented by Takara Tomy and has the double meaning of “We share a dream” and “We are together.” Its subtitle, “Connected Feelings, Building a Dream Together,” means that through this project, we want to make all toy-loving fans and the whole business dream. It was invented by BANDAI SPIRITS.
