The PG UNLEASHED 1/60 RX-78-2 Gundam GUNPLA won the grand prize in the high target toy category of Japan Toy Awards 2021 sponsored by the Japan Toy Association.
This item is the culmination of the 40th anniversary of GUNPLA, and is the ultimate GUNPLA that can be currently manufactured which will lead the brand to the future.
GUNPLA featuring the RX-78-2 Gundam have been released in various forms since the brand launched in July 1980, and countless definitions and restrictions were unintentionally adopted through the ages. The new "UNLEASHED" product brand name contains the desire to open up new possibilities for the future of GUNPLA by breaking free of these restrictions.
It also embodies the evolution of an easy assembly process, articulation, structure, exterior expressions, and effects which has accumulated over the 40-year history of GUNPLA. These features have been condensed into a step-by-step assembly process, and the evolution of GUNPLA can be experienced by assembling the kit.
This item was selected for the award due to its specifications that allows users to experience a simulation of the construction of a real Mobile Suit, and the fact that the articulation, structure, exterior, and effects could be enjoyed through different phases led to its evaluation.

Price: 27,500 JPY (tax included)
This kit adopts a 180 mm tall insert-molded frame, the largest in the history of GUNPLA. The frame throughout its entire body can be put together in full at the earliest point in the assembly process compared to any other PG kit. It has over 90 points of articulation throughout the body, and the torso adopts a Core Block mechanism with a new structure that combines 40 points of articulation.
Metallic molding colors and plated parts have been used for the multi-layered truss frame to create four different types of metallic expressions. A variety of materials including three types of secondary processed parts applied with silver plating, matte gold plating, chrome plating, metal parts as well as newly developed etching stickers have been incorporated.
It also has the most number of opening hatches throughout its body in GUNPLA history, and includes a new LED unit to recreate activation scenes. The small new Dual RGB LED Light can change colors, and an internal design that maximizes light-guiding efficiency enables both articulation and light-up effects. A small light-up unit is also included in one of the 1/60 scale Beam Sabers that enables it to light up with a vivid gradation as though the beam is actually being emitted from the saber handle.
*A BR435 pin-type lithium battery (1 included for testing) and 2 [LR41] button cell batteries (sold separately) are required to recreate light-up effects.
