Gunpla, selling an accumulative total of over 459,000,000 products since it began being sold in July 1980, will approach the 40th anniversary of its release in 2020. The start of the ROAD TO GUNPLA 40th ANNIVERSARY “GUNPLA EVOLUTION PROJECT” that aims to create a new product has been decided.
Gunpla, created in 1980, continues to evolve even now as it goes through various trials. Products that integrated skill were created at these turning points and, each time, the product achieved and future possibilities were offered to its users.
The “GUNPLA EVOLUTION PROJECT” is a project leading up to 2020 that will target all Gunpla brands including HG, MG, RG, PG, and more and will establish an “EVOLUTION POINT.” Mobile [action], an easily assembled [build], and colored molding [color]; this is a project that proposes to users trials that aim to further evolve Gunpla from various angles for its 40th anniversary.
The project’s first product is set to be “Zeta Gundam” from the HG 1/144 scale standard model series and will be released in succession on April 22nd (Sat) in Japan and in countries all over the world. It will be priced at 1,944 yen (tax included.)

The product, the transformable MS Zeta Gundam that appears in Mobile Suit Z Gundam, is manufactured with the latest design technology and molds. The “EVOLUTION POINT” of this project, or the best promotional point for all forms, is that [action] is realized through posing similar to what is found in the series while in its “WAVE RIDER” (aircraft form) state which uses a changeable transformation mechanism and it was developed in the HG series which specializes in mobility.
In this way, this project will pursue action at a level of mobility that 1/144 scaled “Zeta Gundams,” including the “HGUC Zeta Gundam” released in October 2003, were unable to reproduce.
