Mr. Saegusa for Gundam fans in response to the award.
Be sure to take this opportunity to check out his musical masterpieces.
I didn't expect that I would be chosen to receive the Person of Cultural Merit this time and I am extremely happy, surprised, and grateful.
Mobile Suit Z Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, and Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack were great opportunities where I learned a lot.
I remember as if it were yesterday that I focused on "writing good music" without knowing anything about music for animated pieces.
It has been 35 years since then and it encourages me and makes me feel that I was doing things right when I hear the voices of fans who enjoy my music.
The Gundam series is a pioneering work of art that depicts themes of war and peace and the human race through animation, and I am proud that I was able to be a part of it.
I would like to keep working to create good music with the help and passion of director Tomino and the staff, who tried to depict essences in the real world where intentions based on justice are not always right and where acts of evil are not always caused by malice, as well as the support of fans. Thank you very much.
