Report on the Unconventional Fan Participation Event “The Origin”

On Thursday, June 28, the Tokyo Gundam Café Akihabara hosted an exclusive members-only “Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin” fan meet event.

The Gundam.Info editing department managed to infiltrate the event, and have this to report:

At the fan meeting, the staff of “Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin” and Gundam Fan Club members shared a table while eating and playing games together.

The moderator duties were performed by setting creator Atsuhiko Sekiguchi (SUNRISE). Producer Osamu Taniguchi, CG Producer Kiichiro Inoue, screenplay writer Katsuyuki Sumisawa, Production Director Kiyoshi Egami, Character Designer Tsukasa Kotobuki, and Mechanical Designer Miki Akitaka all showed up, taking seats at the table the fans were sitting at.

The entire event was just an open chat session. While enjoying food off the menu reprinted from the previous Origin Fair, fans shared their candid opinions and asked various questions, while staff shared rarely-heard private stories. Both parties would agree that this was an experience they could not have anywhere else.

As the conversations flowed, General Director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko suddenly appeared on a monitor in the shop. He expressed his gratitude to the fans, and they were all presented with a hand-signed print as a surprise gift. As the prints were being wrapped, games were played, and the winners received additional gifts.

During “Question Time”, the guests answered various questions assembled in advance by fan club members. After that, Taniguchi-san gave a few comments on behalf of the staff, and then, in true “The Origin” fashion, the fan meet briskly came to a close.
