“Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN: Clash at Battle of Loum” Third Screening w/ Staff Talk Report
A “THE ORIGIN x Thunderbolt” producer talk!
The third screening event with staff talks for Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN: Clash at Battle of Loum, currently a big-hit screening event at 35 theaters nationwide, took place on September 26th (Tues) at Shinjuku Piccadilly in Tokyo.
As the theme of the third screening was a THE ORIGIN x Thunderbolt producer talk, Producer Osamu Taniguchi of THE ORIGIN and Producer Naohiro Ogata of Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt appeared as guests on stage.
Producer Taniguchi first spoke about his memories of going to various places for the stage greetings of the screening. Producer Ogata spoke of his impressions after seeing the episode, “I was deeply moved when Char makes a sortie at the end. The headshot of Sayla afterwards was amazing. I look forward to episode 6.”

Next, they talked about Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt BANDIT FLOWER which is in preparations for its screening in November. Producer Taniguchi stated his impressions, “I thought Acguy’s gimmick in episode 8 was cool.” When he did so, Producer Ogata suddenly revealed a behind-the-scenes production story, “Acguy’s design varies from suit to suit and we have about 100 character sheets for it. We’re also adding equipment in the anime version that isn’t in the original series.”
A question corner was also held. When asked, “Was Aiguille Delaz present during the Zeon Imperial Council scene?”, Producer Taniguchi replied, “I hadn’t thought about it.” He had also been asked the same question in an interview from another company.
Next, when asked, “If episodes are made until the end of THE ORIGIN, how long will it take?”, he replied, “I would like to do the best that I can.” Producer Ogata also replied, “Certainly, it won’t be more than 3 years, will it?”, which caused laugher to erupt from the audience.
They also talked about the simultaneous theater screenings of Thunderbolt BANDIT FLOWER and Mobile Suit Gundam Twilight AXIS: Red Trace that were announced on the day of the event. Producer Taniguchi commented, “The title has become much larger than I had imagined… is the impression that I have. I didn’t think that (Twilight AXIS) would get a theater screening, so I am grateful.” Producer Ogata commented, “While both series have the appearance of Newtypes in common, each series will have different colors due to how the Newtypes are interpreted and created and I believe that this part of the series is one way to enjoy it. It would be great if there were various ways to enjoy the series.”
