Japan Expo, an annual festival held in France to promote the diversity of Japanese culture, was held again this year from Thursday, July 11th, to Sunday the 14th at the Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre in Paris.
This time, Tetsuya Komuro appeared as an honorary guest and captivated the audience with his world-premiere AI live performance.
This time, Tetsuya Komuro appeared as an honorary guest and captivated the audience with his world-premiere AI live performance.
Komuro's live performance took place on Sunday, July 14th, which is Bastille Day. Responding to the enthusiasm of the audience, he performed a DJ + synthetic set for about 60 minutes, exceeding the scheduled time of 45 minutes.
Komuro, who is involved with AI as a visiting senior researcher at the RIKEN Institute, performed a challenging collaboration with AI at TM NETWORK's arena concert, and then performed an otherworldly collaboration between AI + local video jockeying on the Japan Expo stage, creating an unprecedented atmosphere of music and video.
In addition, a system that creates videos from music in real time was unveiled for the first time at this event. The band performed "FREEDOM," the theme song for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM; "Koishisa to Setsunasa to Kokoro Zuyosa to," the theme song for the feature-length animated film Street Fighter II MOVIE; "Get Wild," the ending theme for City Hunter; and more. The venue was filled with about 3,000 people who sang together.
Since his debut as a member of TM NETWORK, Komuro has made a tremendous contribution to Japan's world-famous anime culture in the form of music for nearly 40 years. It was a moving concert that made it clear that his music is loved all over the world.

Comment from Tetsuya Komuro
This was my first overseas live performance since my piano performances and DJ sets in Shanghai and Southeast Asia five or six years ago.
Mostly, I was nervous about Japan Expo. I wanted to use the latest technology possible, videos that went beyond the boundaries of licenses, and play the latest songs.
But I think I was worried for nothing.
The anime-loving Parisians knew every song inside out, and I was able to proceed with the stage as I pleased, like a conductor. I even got to do the 10-minute-long "Get Wild"!
The hour flew by, and I think I enjoyed it more than anyone else.
I would like to thank the various manufacturers who kindly gave permission for the music and videos for this stage, the staff who worked hard, and above all, the audience who warmly welcomed me!
Japan Expo was a great opportunity to be a part of, and I'm so grateful for the wonderful stage they prepared for me!
