What Scene Did Kana Ichinose Almost Cry At? Stage Report from KYOMAF’s THE WITCH FROM MERCURY Pre-Broadcast Special Stage

On Saturday, September 17th, a special stage for the pre-broadcast of Mobile Suit Gundam THE WITCH FROM MERCURY was held at KYOMAF in the South Hall of ROHM Theatre Kyoto.

This stage was one of the projects held during Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2022 (KYOMAF), the largest manga, anime, and game event in western Japan, held at Miyako Messe and other venues in Kyoto Prefecture.
Kana Ichinose voices main character Suletta Mercury of Mobile Suit Gundam THE WITCH FROM MERCURY which will start broadcasting in October, and Lynn voices Miorine Rembran. Both women appeared at the event.

When talking about the scene in the anime’s “Prologue” in which Elnora and Nadim proclaim their love for each other, Ichinose said, “I was stood in front of the mic, about to say Eri-chan (Ericht)’s line, but I started to tear up when I heard those lines.” She also smiled as she said, “The animation and the voice actors’ lines are all amazing. The prologue will make you so much more eager to see the main story.”
Lynn was unable to hide her surprise that the animation for “Prologue” was not part of the main story. On the magnificence of the music and the visuals shown in silence, she said, “I was captivated by the story in a short amount of time. I’ve never heard such a sad “Happy Birthday” song before.” She also mentioned that she’s looking forward to the main storyline.

Next, the women talked about the characters they voice. Ichinose said that Suletta is an introvert and that she “feels a sense of affinity with [Suletta] when she works hard to try and get closer to others.” She also commented that it’s nice how Suletta is able to think for herself and act on her decisions like a true protagonist.
Lynn said that while Miorine seems calm and collected, she is also “a bit headstrong. She also expresses the various emotions that affect her.” Then she commented that Miorine’s strong sense of rebellion against her father is one of her character’s key points.

Finally, the women gave messages to the audience. Lynn said, “Thank you for coming to view this stage. I believe you’ll be able to enjoy the worldview in THE WITCH FROM MERCURY, which is completely different from every other title in the Gundam series. It’s a school-based story, so please enjoy tuning in each week to see how the story progresses with Suletta and her unique classmates.” Ichinose’s message was, “Each time I go in to record an episode, I leave wondering what will happen next. It’s a truly interesting story. As a viewer, I’m truly looking forward to the finished episodes. Please look forward to seeing how the girls will carve a future for themselves with the Gundam, which are depicted as dangerous; how Ericht was able to pilot a Gundam; and the appearance of more strong characters.”
