It has been decided that “TOKYO MEETING”, an event that has the purpose of promoting international exchange and sports, will be held on October 15th (Sun) as part of the “TOKYO Gundam Project 2017.”
The “TOKYO Gundam Project 2017” will develop a project that further advocates a sports theme while carrying on the initiatives that Tokyo has made up until now. “TOKYO MEETING” will have performances of new sports such as Double Dutch, Dodgebee, and Sports Chanbara as well as cheerleading, dance, and Japanese taiko drums performed by high school students nearby the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue.
At the event, visitors will enjoy exchanges that go beyond country or age through Japanese culture and various sports experiences. The event aims to contribute to promoting sports and nurturing global human resources of the younger generation, focusing on junior high and high school students, along with making efforts to further stimulate the Rinkai Fukutoshin (Tokyo Water Front) area.

The TOKYO Gundam Project is
The 18m Life-Sized Gundam Statue attracted much public attention, bringing joy and excitement, since 2009. Then, in September 2017, a new Gundam appeared.
The TOKYO Gundam Project consists of the Gundam Statue being built for the future of Tokyo and the advancement of international communication based in the Tokyo Rinkai Fukutoshin area. This year will be a development of a project that further advocates sports as its theme and will support nurturing global human resources and promoting sports of the younger generation with a focus on junior high and high school students.
2012: Supported the “29th National Urban Green Fair TOKYO” and cooperated in sending a greening message
2013: Supported sports events such as the “Sports Festival Tokyo 2013” and contributed in promoting sports in Tokyo
2014: Supported the “Shining Youth South Kanto All-Japan 2014” alongside the promotion of the vitalization in the Rinkai Fukutoshin area
2015 ~: Supporting an initiative in promoting international exchange and nurturing of global human resources in “From Tokyo to the World”
Initiative to Nurture Global Human Resources of the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education
The Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education is placing efforts in nurturing global human resources that will participate in various settings in the international community beginning with the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. They will do this through measures such as the development of English instruction that use the latest English teaching methods by means of Assistant English Language Teachers (200 people) posted to all metropolitan high schools through the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET Program), “The Program for the Development of Next-Generation Leaders” that gives study abroad assistance for high school students (200 people), and overseas dispatch training for junior high and high school language (English) instructors (140 people).
