After finishing the development of the RX-78-01[FSD] Gundam FSD, two plans were advanced by the Earth Federation Forces. The first one involved the RX numbers to be mass produced, while the other one was meant to increase the weapon system, called the “FSWS (Full-armour System and Weapon System) plan”.
The FSWS plan’s goal is to strengthen the RX-78 with the increase of weaponry and armour, for this, many different machines were took under consideration.
The FA-78-1 Full Armor Gundam is a type with increased armour and weapons mounted on the base armour, whilst the FA-78-2 Heavy Gundam had its body already heavily equipped with weapons. They designed it with fire power, a functional armor and an elevated grade of maneuverability.
