The TOKYO GUNDAM English Guide, a sightseeing guide event where high school students introduce the Life-Size Unicorn Gundam Statue, the Mobile Suit Gundam anime series, and information about the Tokyo Waterfront Area to foreign tourists. It begins on Friday, November 11th.
This event is part of the TOKYO Gundam Project 2023, which aims to revitalize the Tokyo Waterfront Area and develop global human resources in Tokyo, while building up the motivation to study English among younger generations and creating opportunities for international exchange. It has been held in 2018 and 2019, and this third event will be the first one to be held physically in four years.
A total of 46 high school students from Tokyo have participated in an English learning program to prepare for this event. They have been trained to be actual tour guides who will explain Gundam and information about the Tokyo Waterfront Area to foreign tourists visiting the area around the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue using a special English map created for this event. This map also introduces the Life-Size Gundam Statues in Fukuoka and Shanghai, as well as a Life-Sized Moving Gundam in Yokohama.
The event will be held around the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue set up in DiverCity Tokyo Plaza Festival Square from 1:00 PM on Saturdays, Sundays, and National holidays (excluding December 2nd and 3rd) starting on Friday, November 3rd to Sunday, December 10th.
Following the event, a video where high school students introduce foreign exchange students to the Tokyo Waterfront Area where the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue is set up and GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA where the Life-Sized Moving Gundam is placed will be released on the TOKYO Gundam Project 2023 official website.
The TOKYO Gundam Project will also offer events within the fiscal year such as a mystery-solving treasure hunt where participants will solve mysteries while traveling around the waterfront area, and an art piece created through a collaboration with Tokyo University of the Arts made using runners left over after assembling GUNPLA. More events are coming soon, so please look forward to further updates.
