The Shanghai Life-Size Freedom Gundam Statue is Almost Complete! Opening Ceremony Will be Held on May 28th!

A ceremony held to pray for safety was held today on Monday, April 26th, at Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Shanghai Jinqiao in Shanghai, China, where the Life-Size Freedom Gundam Statue is scheduled to be placed.

This statue is the first life-size Gundam statue to be placed overseas, and was revealed at the Gundam China Project Presentation in July 2020. It is an unprecedented project, and despite a series of unimaginably difficult challenges, the statue is finally reaching completion after weathering countless challenges.

The head of the Life-Size Freedom Gundam was attached to its body during the prayer ceremony. A large crane was used to lift the Gundam's head 18 meters above ground, and technicians meticulously connected it to the body.
As a result, the construction of the 18.03 meter-tall Life-Size Freedom Gundam Statue’s body was completed. The feet are scheduled to be attached tonight, fully completing the entire statue.

The Life-Size Freedom Gundam Statue will be unveiled on Wednesday, April 28th when Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Shanghai Jinqiao opens, and an opening ceremony will be held on Friday, May 28th, after a month-long adjustment period.
Magnificent performances featuring the statue will be unveiled at the ceremony, and the performances will be held every day thereafter. Special guests will also make appearances during the ceremony, which is scheduled to be streamed live on bilibili. Don’t miss out on it!

THE GUNDAM BASE Shanghai Jinqiao also opens on Wednesday, April 28th, in LaLaport Shanghai Jinqiao. Furthermore, a GUNDAM docks at SHANGHAI event will also begin on Friday, May 28th, when the opening ceremony will be held.
