“GUNDAM docks at TOKYO JAPAN”, a large-scaled Gundam event that has landed in Japan for the first time, opened at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba, Tokyo on November 20th (Mon).
“GUNDAM docks” is a large-scale event from overseas that collaborates Gundam with large commercial facilities. It first began in Hong Kong and was then also brought to Singapore and even Taiwan. “GUNDAM docks at TOKYO JAPAN” will also be an event where you can enjoy all the worlds of Gundam at once with a building takeover, a 21 1/10 scale statue exhibit, stamp rally, and sales of original merchandise.
An opening ceremony was held on the event’s first day, November 20th (Mon), and featured wonderful guests including EXILE’s Mr. MAKIDAI. The opening of the event was announced spectacularly.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at the event.
■ An Opening Ceremony Featuring Wonderful Guests!
An opening ceremony was held in celebration of the hosting of this event on the large staircase in DiverCity Tokyo Plaza’s Festival Plaza, the main spot of GUNDAM docks at TOKYO JAPAN.
EXILE’s Mr. MAKIDAI, Ms. Nana Suzuki, Mr. Toru Furuya, voice of Amuro Ray from Mobile Suit Gundam, and Ms. Mikako Komatsu, voice of Sei Iori from Gundam Build Fighters, appeared as special guests for the ceremony. In addition to their thoughts and an introduction on the highlights of the event, they also shared their stories and passionate feelings about Gundam and significantly livened up the event.
▲ The event began with a live performance of “Fly! Gundam” with Japanese taiko drums, a representative Japanese instrument, as it is the first time the event is being held domestically.
▲ Speeches were also made by Bandai’s Chief Gundam Officer & Managing Director Yoshitaka Tao as well as Mitsui Fudosan Retail Management DiverCity Tokyo Plaza’s Operation Center Head Tsutomu Uenoyama.

▲ Mr. MAKIDAI and Ms. Suzuki were seeing the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue for the first time and both excitedly said, “Its form is so cool!” and “I’m impressed!”
▲ There was also a moment when Mr. MAKIDAI had answered that the first Gunpla he built was Zaku, which Mr. Furuya replied with “It wasn’t Gundam!?” while approaching him.
▲ The Gunpla “Gyan” in Char’s image colors and a rhinestone-decorated figure of “Char’s Z’Gok” from Mr. MAKIDAI’s personal collection. He has more than 100 Gunpla and figures in his home.
▲ Mr. Furuya also visited “GUNDAM docks at TAIWAN”, which had been held last month. He commented, “For GUNDAM docks to be held here at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza… I couldn’t be happier!”, which also deeply moved Mr. MAKIDAI at the use of his famous line.
▲ The cutting of the tape was also held at the end of the ceremony and had announced the opening of the event.
■ DiverCity Tokyo Plaza Infected with Gundam! An Introduction of the Interior!
The interior of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza will be covered in Gundam during the event period until January 8, 2018 (Mon, holiday). Each and every floor is themed after varying Gundam series and will be wrapped in Gundam designs throughout the facility including its pillars, entrances, atrium glasses, and elevators.
Furthermore, 1/10 scale statues of Gundam, Unicorn Gundam, Gundam Exia, and Strike Gundam are now on display while giant Haro balloons that are approximately two meters in size have appeared in the atrium space from the 4th to 6th floors. Four types of “3D Trick Photos”, where 3D photos can be taken to look as if you’ve stepped into the anime, have also been installed in the 4th floor entertainment space. The latest products are also on display on the 4th floor, so let’s take a walk around inside while enjoying the worlds of Gundam.

▲ The Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn collaboration high top sneakers “Unicorn Gundam Model” and “Banshee Model” manufactured by MoonStar are set to release through STRICT-G on December 9th (Sat)!
These sneakers are scheduled to open for preorders on December 4th (Mon) on Premium Bandai. A campaign to receive a limited-edition novelty tote bag is also currently underway, so definitely be sure to visit the event and check them out.
▲ A stamp rally is also currently being held. You can get your hands on a deluxe mobile cleaner when you collect all four stamps. The cleaner is available in an Earth Federation Forces design until December 14th (Thurs) and will then be switched to a Zeon Principality design afterwards.
▲ An original paper cup design introduced on the 2nd floor food court! There is a limited amount available in a day, so do take note of this.

▲ Limited edition postcards and clearfiles are being sold at the Gundam Trailer Shop located at the foot of the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue!
■ Various Events Being Held at THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO! Including “NEXT PHASE GUNPLA!”
“Mobile Suit Gundam 00 World”, an exhibition that celebrates the 10th anniversary since Mobile Suit Gundam 00’s debut broadcast, is currently being held at THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO. It is a Gunpla center located on the 7th floor of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza.
Furthermore, the opening of the NEXT PHASE GUNPLA booth, where the latest Gunpla will be displayed first before anywhere else, has also begun. If you’ll be visiting GUNDAM docks at TOKYO JAPAN, definitely be sure to check out the booth as well.
