Since Rau cannot go out to fight because of the preparations for Operation Spit Break, he appoints Athrun as leader of the Archangel pursuit team. Yzak and Dearka are displeased, but turn defiant, to wait and see what Athrun’s made of.
In the meantime, the Archangel barely win the underwater warfare, and struggle with the relentless chase and attack from the Morassim’s submarine. Cagalli also launches in the second Sky Grasper to fight. The Morassim Team perceives the Archangel’s weakness and attacks relentlessly from below with the underwater mobile suit ZnO. Murrue surprisingly orders to perform a 360-degree barrel roll so they can ensure the line of fire, and fires their main cannons Gottfried. They repel the GOOhNs’ pursuit.
Athrun is heading for Carpentaria Base on Aegis Gundam’s transport plane when it stumbles upon the damaged Cagalli’s unit. Athrun’s transport plane crashes and he is thrown out. Cagalli’s damaged Sky Grasper and Athrun’s Aegis Gundam crash along the shore of a small unnamed island.
